2K Takes over College Basketball Return
After the smashing success of College Football 25, who’s first trailer doubled the views of the first Madden 25 trailer last year, with over 28 million views on X within the first 48 hours of its release, EA Sports was trying to recapture that magic with a different sport. EA Sports had announced the return of their College Basketball video game series early this year, however those plans were scrapped when some colleges refused to go with EA and chose to go with a 2K College Basketball videogame instead. It remains to be seen what 2Ks plans will be, but the success that EA had with College Football 25 and 26, will not continue with College Basketball.

EA Sports success with College Football was a major reason for this decision.
Was an expected 2028 Release
While the initial announcement was met with much fanfare and anticipation it was still going to be awhile before EA was planning on releasing another College Basketball game. 2028 was the expected release date that was mentioned by EA Sports. If 2K goes into the College Basketball world, it is reasonable to think that it wouldn’t take them as long due to the game engine they currently have already with NBA2K. The biggest hurdle that 2K would have, may be getting every D1 College to sign on for the videogame, which was what caused EA to scrape the idea all together.

First College Basketball Game since NCAA Basketball 10
The possibility of an upcoming release of a college basketball video game by a major company, has such hype around it due to how long it’s been since the last release of one. You have to go all the way back to 2009 with the release of NCAA Basketball 10, for the last college basketball video game. With Blake Griffin on the cover in his Oklahoma jersey, NCAA Basketball 10 released in 2009 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The return of a College Basketball franchise would be a shot of nostalgia to college basketball fans and gamers around the world, who grew up playing college basketball video games on their Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
